All About

Aspects of Dance

Our History!

Our story starts well over 50 years ago when Alex and Doris Johnstone started up Ballroom classes in the local area under the name 'Johnstone School of Dance' In the seventies they expanded the school and opened a theatre branch offering classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Disco. The reins where then passed on to one of their teachers and under the name of Frimley Dance Studio students continued to work towards exams, competitions and festivals. Then the time came to hand the school to the current principals who continue to practice Doris' philosophy, that dancing is to be enjoyed by all, regardless of background and ability every child who is keen to learn will be encouraged to participate in all the activities at the school.

The Team

Donna, granddaughter to Alex & Doris and Sam a former pupil from a very young age welcomed Sophie into their dancing family over 20 years ago and now run ‘Aspects of Dance Academy’ as a joint venture adding new classes specific for dance festivals and other events.  They are supported with the teaching by Louise another former pupil who takes our adult tap & freestyle disco classes.

School Policy

We strive to ensure that all our classes are friendly and welcoming, to enable each and every child to achieve the confidence to enjoy and progress in the classes they participate in. We aim to attain the highest level of achievement for each and every child and we hope to inspire them through their time spent with us and to encourage them to progress in all aspects of their dance leading them on to who knows what…….

As well as weekly classes, which follow the Surrey & Hampshire School terms we have a bi-annual show and take part in events  like carnivals & fete displays.

We also take part in one/two disco competitions a year with a school based in New Malden and enter as many pupils as want to, in a festival in October /November , which we now hostevery year for solos, duets and groups.  Performance classes are available for group numbers for Festivals and the events mentioned above.

IDTA

As part of the International Dance Teachers Association we work towards exams in all disciplines taught.  Being part of the above association also guarantees we have a full support network, ensuring we are up to date with current regulations, and have in place recommended policies to make a happy, safe and fulfilling environment within the school.
